kowton and tom dicicco, residing in bristol and manchester respectively, make very different music from one another. kowtons seems to come from house, perhaps also electro and garage, often quite slow in tempo and hard to pin down to a specific genre. toms music is techno, bass heavy, melodic, textured and rooted around 125 bpm. with these distinctive styles the idea of a split ep might seem ambitious, but the result is four cohesive but different tracks that show the talents of both artists perfectly in the format of two originals on one side and two remixes of each others originals on the other. tom diciccos original is driven by a low-mid range thick stab and pounding kick drum, littered with intricate but not overbearing hi hat and snare work and some very atmospheric mid range. kowtons is subtle and sparse, low fidelity and plodding, with rattling percusion carrying the tune along. on the other side of the record, kowtons remix of toms original is driven by an enormous bassline, with an off kilter dubby feel to the slow tempo and genre defying tune. toms remix of kowton rounds off the ep with a return to stab driven techno, pulsating, dynamic and trance inducing.

played by sven väth !!! night voyage tool kit is the collaborative project of two like-minded producers, night slugs bok bok and tom trago, curator of the rush hour labels voyage direct series. originally commissioned by sound pellegrino label boss teki latex, this is the result of four intense days and nights in toms amsterdam studio, surrounded by hardware and enshrouded in a thick haze. having pursued very different directions in their respective solo work, the duo find common ground in minimalism, dj tools, the neptunes and ghetto house. the result is a collection of stripped down rhythm tracks aimed straight for the club: the arpeggiator workout of pathfinder, vectors cosmic jeep bass, pom clash and its grimey lil louis tribute, and the acid epic lil ma bonus beat.

having played host to the first two daphni edits 12 inches, resista return with the label debut of one tom croose.
one half of ny duo worst friends, toms previous discographic output was a limited & stamped 7 inch that featured a killer edit of the macs >never going back again<. for resista no. 3 he delves into territories brazilian, with >cho chua<, a faultless rework of a certain tropicalista, designed for discerning dancefloors, circa ad 2011. he loops up the swinging guitar intro, which combined with the vocal hook makes for a heady mix. its an uplifting, joyous ode to all things tropical!
on the flip the >dukes dub< is a subtler more restrained version that makes greater use of effects and surprisingly brings the songs percussive elements to the fore... not quite as direct as its sibling on the a-side but definitely as effective!

you may have listened to fred de f productions with recent dance artists collaborations (adi-ermane - need each other, fred de f & luke jeferson - sankukai). new release cloud is still marked with fred de f touch and a distingtive radioactif musical flavor.
fred de f original version is progressive, ultra-bumping, inspired from spanish soundings. the version releases body-heat and energy. great track for dancefloors. tom donax composes an aerial remix and explores a different universe: breakbeat soundings, vocal inspired from the nineties and presence of pads break the rhythmic bringing the record a nice equilibrium. cool version for a home listening.

his first, and arguably best album from the great rozenblit catalogue lovingly restored in its original format on limited lp, re-mastered from the original rozenblit master tapes. in 1968 tom ze moved from salvador, bahia to sao paulo where he hung out and wrote with his friends gilberto gil and caetano veloso. although initially part of the tropicalia movement, ze was extremely independent and determined to forge his own musical path. he started by recording grande liquidacao, a hyperactive pop album backed up by two incredible psychedelic rock bands: os brazoes and os versateis.

the boston based alternative rock band buffalo tom formed in 1986. the band around singer/ guitarist bill janovitz became one of the more popular alternative rock bands by the mid 1990s. the 1992 album let me come over was truly the great leap forward for the band, sounding richer, more imaginative, and more emotionally powerful than anything they d recorded before.

and are a duo living in manchester, uk. they have released a split 12 inch with 16 bit on mindset in 2009, the second 12 inch on black sun records that came out recently and a couple of 12 inches on horizontal ground. they sent me various batches of tracks spanning a wide range of sounds, all rooted in techno to my ears but spanning different tempos, emphasis and mood. i selected three of those tracks to appear on this ep, ranging between 130 and 135 bpm. these are two of the best t. flynn tracks ive heard. budgie smuggler is a fresh club jam that sounds like deez nuts and keep listening is a red alert, 4 alarm big room only rocker.

>sooner or later< by tom clark and martin eyerer is a classy and solid club tune. both masterminds are offering their own >sooner or later< interpretation on this release. tom clarks mix shows a rough and full body, clear structures and is highly seductive. martin eyerers mix is softer with a touch of minimalistic retro-chic. as both interpretations enjoy the same musical introduction the personality of each stands out even stronger making it a treat to the listeners ears. the daniel dreier & dale remix is an intense opposite to the original versions a techno-esque and sparkly ear feast, while the adrian martin & klangwerk remix has a softer approach pairing addictive beats to an ecstasized bass line. all in all >sooner or later< is a 4 track release featuring 4 outstanding visions of the moment in-between sooner or later, a vision for each and every one of us.
